stART - The Day it Rained Hearts

For this week's stART, we read The Day It Rained Hearts by Felicia Bond.

The following day, we had a Valentine's Day party with our discipleship team from church. There were 12 kids ranging from 7 months to 4 years. Okay, so the babies didn't really participate, but the other kids had a blast! More pictures from that later (they're on a different camera). For now, here's the things Kahlen did for school on Tuesday.
I got trays from Oriental Trading company and decided to try something more like Tot Trays for school this week. It worked out pretty well, and I'll probably continue to do this, although mine is a lot more structured (probably just because she's my oldest, wait until I have multiple kids doing school)
Anyway, here's what the trays looked like before we dived in:

(Sorry the picture is a little blurry, she was anxious to get started)
We started with the stART project. First, we read the book, which was very cute. It's about a girl who makes four different personalized Valentine's for her friends. We then made Valentine's for our friends that were going to be at the party.

I got a bag of 100 foam Valentine's day themed stickers at the dollar store. I then cut cardstock into quarter pages and folded those in half. I wrote her friend's names on each one and she decorated them with stickers and markers. She had a great time "writing" each one's name on the inside (no recognizable letters, we'll get to that later).

Next, she chose the tray with Pink Vanilla playdough.

We then learned our new verse song, 1 John 4:19 - We loved because He first loved us. Also on this tray was Hide-and-Seek hearts. Sorry, no pictures, but it was really fun to play with her. First, I placed 10 hearts around the living room and helped her find them. Then she "hid" five of them and I had to "find" them. Mostly she hid them in the same places I had and they were all very obvious. Also, I had to stop her from telling me where they were, but I think by the end of three rounds she was getting the idea :)

Then we played with her new pom-pom magnets I made using dollar store pom-poms and round magnets from JoAnns. I made this H is for Heart page based on the same idea from Confessions of a Homeschooler
H is for Heart

She thought this was great! We'll definitely continue using these. In fact, I'll probably buy some more magnets since I didn't have enough this time to do both the H and the Heart.

Last, we did this heart matching game that I found on Preschool Printables. I ended up cutting hearts with my Cricut because I can :) It was pretty easy for her, which by this point was a good thing. There's only so much she can handle in one day, ya know?

That completed our first day of Valentine's activities. Hopefully, I'll post soon what we did for day two (before we do day three on Tuesday) :)
