Friday Fail - Rainbow Cupcakes

Welcome to the first edition of Friday Fail. Found this meme at My Blessed Life through the Ultimate Blog Party.

This Monday we were doing our Muffin Tin Monday lunch and the theme was rainbow since we were finishing up the color series we've been doing. I found a cute idea on another mom's blog about rainbow cupcakes and thought, "Wow, those look fun and easy, we can make those in a jiffy!" Riiiiiight.

See, aren't they fun? I didn't have a cake mix like they recommended, so I figured I could just whip up a cake from my all-purpose cookbook and use that. Lesson learned: don't use a recipe you've never tried and then modify it.

Somehow, not what I was going for...

Don't think they're supposed to look like that, eh?
They were hard and fallen in and exploded all over the inside of my oven, yuck (still have to clean that up).

Kahlen ate one with her muffin tin and I threw the rest out :(
