Preschool Corner / Raising Rock Stars – C is for Caterpillar

preschool corner

Kahlen is 4 years, 3 months

Okay, new plan. I’m starting this post right now, when we haven’t even done the unit yet. Here’s my plan sheet for the week, we’ll be starting this one on April 4th, so I have it scheduled to post on April 8th, at the end of the week. I’m hoping maybe it will keep me motivated to fill in an otherwise empty post!

Cc Plan Sheet

RRSP Highlights

“Children, obey your parents in all things, for this is well pleasing to the Lord.” ~ Colossians 3:20

We memorized this verse a year ago with the Hubbard’s Cupboard 2’s curriculum. She had a helpful song to go with it which you can go get here.

2011-04-04 C Day 1 (2) 2011-04-04 C Day 1 (3)Cutting and taping her long verse

2011-04-06 C Day 2 (2)Writing our word for the week, “in”

2011-04-06 C Day 2 (3)“Getting ready for C” Notice she needed the help of the counting bears today :)

2011-04-06 C Day 2 (4) 2011-04-07 C day 3 (2)Vocabulary words in their card holder after she cut them all out.

2011-04-08 C day 4 (7)Practicing writing C’s. You can’t really tell in the picture,  but she decided to hook them all together, which was fine with me as long as she didn’t dawdle (She’s a *HUGE* dawdler!)

Letter of the week highlights C is for Caterpillar, of course. Click on the image above to be taken to Confessions of a Homeschooler, where I got all these printables.

2011-04-06 C Day 2 (1)Playing the caterpillar game 2011-04-06 C Day 2 (5)Caterpillar counting numbers. This one she used pompoms for.

2011-04-07 C day 3 (5) 2011-04-07 C day 3 (6)Caterpillar puzzle. I took my cutting system from Creative Memories and cut a bunch of different shapes out this time to mix it up a bit.

 2011-04-08 C day 4 (8)Size sorting.

2011-04-08 C day 4 (9) 2011-04-08 C day 4 (10)Bottlecap letter matching. Of course, caterpillar has several duplicate letters, so we had to use some lowercase letters too. Surprisingly, she was okay with that.

Extras 2011-04-04 C Day 1 (4) 2011-04-04 Tot School Caterpillar (1)

Both kids enjoyed making pompom caterpillars, although Nate was sure it was a tongue depressor that must go in his mouth. He was fine once I put glue on it and showed him the pompoms.2011-04-04 C Day 1 (5)

Preschool Corner / Raising Rock Stars Preschool – U is for Umbrella

preschool corner

Kahlen is 4 years, 3 months

We were a bit disorganized this week due to lack of motivation on my part, but we got through most of our planned activities. It’s getting harder with the weather warming up and little brother not napping as much in the morning.

“Unto thee, O God, do we give thanks” ~ Psalm 75:1

2011-03-28 U Day 1 (1) Cutting out and taping her long verse2011-03-28 U Day 1 (4) Measuring it on her head like a crown

2011-03-28 U Day 1 (5)A craft left over from last week’s J unit, oops :) On the front it says “Who is the way, the truth and the life?” and has a door knob. You then staple (or whatever) to the paper with Jesus on it that has our verse from last week.

2011-03-28 U Day 1 (6)Coloring her verse. She started out scribbling on it, and I talked to her about not being foolish and not being a baby. She is four years old and knows how to color better than that. So the boy is scribbled, and the girl is perfectly like the example :)

 2011-04-01 U Day 4 (3)Tracing U’s

IMG_7199Her cut out vocabulary cards. The other vocab cards are on the back. I didn’t get pictures of her cutting this time, but she does a great job! She then made a star out of the scraps:

This week, our theme was U is for Umbrella. The week started out with a hail / rain storm that was perfect for using her new umbrella and rain boots in (Yes, we waited until the hail stopped!).

2011-03-29 U Day 2 (2)Counting Raindrops 2011-03-30 U Day 3 (1) 2011-03-30 U Day 3 (2)Color by number (Jeez, you’d never know she went through a looooong time of me not wanting to take her picture. ever.)

 2011-03-30 U Day 3 (5)Do-a-dot pages 2011-04-01 U Day 4 (1) 2011-04-01 U Day 4 (2)Umbrella patterning

Photobucket  We did a drawing page this week, but I have no pictures…

We did a stART project from the book The Umbrella Queen. We also did a bunch of other activities that weren’t really part of “the plan”.

2011-03-29 U Day 2 (1)Found this alphabet maze, and she thought it was awesome. So awesome, in fact, that she did it three times this week AND I created a lowercase one for her to do too. Overall, she does pretty well with her lowercase letters, but there are a few that she has a hard time with, so this is really good practice. 2011-03-30 U Day 3 (4)We used a dot painter for the lower case one, just to mix it up a bit.

We made a rain scene picture that we’ve done before (over a year ago, heehee).2011-03-29 U Day 2 (3)Tracing a bowl for the umbrella. 2011-03-29 U Day 2 (4)Cutting out the umbrella

2011-03-29 U Day 2 (5)Pulling the cotton balls into clouds.

2011-03-29 U Day 2 (6)The finished masterpiece, including a picture of her under the umbrella and the letter U to the left of the umbrella2011-03-29 U Day 2 (7)Couldn’t do a craft without a picture of her ;)

Preschool Corner / Raising Rock Stars – J is for Jesus

preschool corner

Kahlen is 4 years, 3 months

Okay, I’m still really behind, but maybe if I start from where we are now and work backwards, I’ll be more motivated to finish backfilling the other weeks we’ve already done. As I start this post, we’re still right in the middle of this unit, so I’m going to put up the things we’ve done already and go from there…

Jj Plan Sheet

Photobucket Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” ~ John 14:6

She would rather I just keep saying the verse and not make her do it at all, but she’s getting it. I also used a window crayon to write it on the mirror in the main level bathroom, so she has more exposure to it.

2011-03-21 J Day 1 (1)Writing the sight word of the week, “said”

2011-03-21 J Day 1 (2)Proudly displaying her taped together verse

2011-03-23 J Day 2 (1)Cutting out our J vocabulary words 2011-03-24 J Day 3 (1)Writing the word again, she wanted to. (Notice the fantastic sloppy coloring job in the background)

2011-03-24 J Day 3 (2)She also wanted me to take a picture of the actual word she wrote

Photobucket

J is for Jesus, and it’s also for Jelly Bean. I couldn’t help it, I always have liked graphing jelly beans (just ask my mom, I had her make me a graph every single year!)

2011-03-21 J Day 1 (4)Using the number clip cards with jelly beans 2011-03-21 J Day 1 (5)Size sorting baby Jesus 2011-03-23 J Day 2 (2) Jelly bean graphing 2011-03-23 J Day 2 (4)“Kahlen, give me a nice smile” 2011-03-23 J day 2 (5)Dot painting 2011-03-24 J Day 3 (3)Matching jelly bean shapes (she turned them over to play like memory)

 2011-03-24 J Day 3 (4)All taped together

2011-03-25 J Day 4 (7) Jesus cut and paste craft. I had some leftover cut up pieces of raffia from a different project, so we glued those on as straw.

Photobucket

2011-03-21 J Day 1 (6)We cut out a crown this week, she was very excited about wearing it. Too bad she left it out so her brother got a hold of it! Photobucket 2011-03-23 J Day 2 (6) We pulled out our play dough mats and made the letter J.

2011-03-25 J Day 4 (3) Did our first dot-to-dot page from here.2011-03-25 J Day 4 (4) 2011-03-25 J Day 4 (6)I finally got the bottle cap numbers and cards all ready after having printed them about a month ago. I wanted to laminate the cards, and when I would have the laminator turned on, I would forget. Ah well, they’re done. We had a good time with this one. It was more challenging for her than I anticipated. She’s having difficulty with the higher numbers, so this is definitely one we’ll be doing again soon!

2011-03-25 J Day 4 (2) We also did her first maze today. This one was from KinderIQ, it was going through the numbers 1-15. I had to walk her through it, but she seemed to enjoy it. Could just be that I let her use a highlighter too… ;)
