Tasty Tuesday - Light Wheat Bread & LINKY PARTY #2

Tasty Tuesday
Welcome to another week of Tasty Tuesday here at The Youngn's!
If you're here for the first time from the Ultimate Blog Party, welcome!

Please link up your recipe at the bottom of the page. You can post a link to a recipe on your blog or anywhere else. In the title of your link, please leave your name too (especially if it's not a blog post) so I know who it came from :)

Also, feel free to grab my Tasty Tuesday button, it's on the left side, near my other button.

This week, I thought I'd share my favorite bread recipe. I make my own bread every week for many reasons:
  • Because it's cheaper
  • Because it tastes better
  • Because I know what's in it
  • Because my hubby and store-bought bread don't play nice (he can't handle all the high-fructose corn syrup)
  • Because it's EASY! It takes me about 2 minutes to start a loaf.
I took a recipe that we really liked, but was all white flour, and tweaked it to a "light wheat". This works at altitude here in Colorado, so you might have to adjust it slightly for lower elevations.

{Ingredients}
  • 1 1/4 cup Whole Milk
  • 3 tbsp Butter
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1/3 cup Sugar
  • 2 cups Bread Flour
  • 1 cup Whole Wheat Flour
  • 1 3/4 tsp Yeast
{Directions}
  • Warm milk in microwave for 40 seconds on high
  • Add butter and microwave for another 20 seconds
  • Add ingredients to your bread machine in the order your directions state. (Mine says the order I typed them in)
  • Wait four hours and be tortured by the smell of tasty bread wafting through your house
  • Slice and enjoy!
The bread lasts about a week without going moldy if you store it in a bag in the pantry. Less if left out or if devoured by family and friends :)

Muffin Tin Monday - Rainbow

Muffin Tin Monday at Her Cup Overfloweth

This week at Muffin Tin Monday the theme was Rainbow to finish up our color series. I tried to make rainbow cupcakes that I found from another MTM participant, but they were a major fail (more on that for the Friday Fail meme), bummer!

Here's our rainbow dinner:
Back row: Ketsup for chicken nuggets, shredded cheddar cheese, applesauce
Front row: Edamame, blue wrapped chocolate and purple jelly beans from Easter

Not as big of a hit this week, but mostly because daddy got home when she wasn't quite finished and she wanted to help him with the bbq grill. ;)

Next week's theme is Leftovers Rock! Hope you can join us!

Menu Plan Monday - April 12th

Right, we actually stuck to the menu this week!! Amazing :) I was busy all weekend partying with the Ultimate Blog Party, so now I'm trying to catch up on life a little and not spend *too* much time on my computer. The party goes all this week, so you still have time if you want to jump in! Also, I'll be doing a giveaway soon (my first!), so stay tuned for that.

Our menu for this week:
Monday ~ grilled hot dogs & steaks. Hubby really wants to get the grill going!

Tuesday ~  Orange Chicken Stir-fry (only thing from last week that we didn't make)

Wednesday ~ Chicken Pot Pie

Thursday ~  Egg McTimmys (like Egg McMuffins)

Friday ~ Southwest Chicken burritos

Saturday ~  Fajita buffet and dance at Summitview Community Church to benefit missions teams going out this summer

Sunday ~ Mexican Lasagna

Remember to stop by tomorrow for the Tasty Tuesday linky party. Come visit me then!

So, what are you having for dinner this week?

Tot School - Easter Week 4

Tot School
Kahlen is 39.5 months old

We are following the Hubbard's Cupboard curriculum for 2's called Joyful Learning. For four weeks, we have been learning about eggs and Easter. Check out this post that includes the planning sheets for the last two weeks.

We finished up with our Easter activities this week. While we had a great time, I can say I am really ready to move on to something else! I'm surprised we got through all our activities this week since Kahlen and I were both fighting a nasty cold :( Luckily the boys didn't get it (yet, anyway).

So, anyway, here's our week.

Our trays from our first day went like this:

We first read "My Easter Basket and the True Meaning of Easter" and went on a scavenger hunt in the living room for something of each color that it describes in the book.
Something green: caterpillar on exersaucer. Something purple: bowl from her tea set. Something red: scarf on her stuffed penguin. Something brown: her dress. Something white: lid from a toy. Something yellow: pajama shirt that she didn't put away ;)

Next, we did an egg "relay". She had to get the eggs from one basket to the other with the spoon.
After she breezed through this one, I had her use a smaller spoon
"Mom, are you crazy? I need help!"
I'm such a mean mommy, I made her do it all by her self, even though it was harder ;)

After that, she put the "eggs" into an egg carton one at a time using a tea bag squisher (couldn't find my small tongs)

Then we made a handprint wreath. Sorry, no pictures of tracing her hands and cutting them out. Can't trace and take pictures at the same time...
Gluing them together

The finished product, which is now hanging on our front door to replace the cross from a few weeks ago

Then we did our cross puzzle from Confessions of a Homeschooler Easter activities
She's not really into puzzles, it took her a long time to get this one
Tada!

Somewhere in there we also did the E is for Egg magnet page, which she did not want to paint, but did enjoy her magnetic pompoms.

For day two (which was her idea, I was all for watching a movie since I was sick), here's what we did:
We did our stART project first (will post that later today) with The Easter Story (bought for half price day after at KMart).

After that, we did an oval collage. I had stickers, ovals, and glue, and I just handed them to her to see what she would do with them. She came up with using the stickers to stick on the "eggs" all by her self. Of course, then she got lazy and wanted me to peel all the stickers for her.
The finished product

Then we played a game that I got from Confessions of a Homeschooler too. I also made a die (got a template online and just cut it out). We used foam stickers for the markers which we stuck to the paper afterward.
It was great practice. She doesn't really know her numbers very well, so I put the numeral and the number of dots on each side. We also practiced taking turns.

Our other activities included our verse song John 3:16 and a letter E tracing page. She's still enjoying her oatmeal sensory bin and we've been able to play outside more too (so grateful for sandboxes!).

I'd say for being somewhat sick all week, it was a pretty good week!
