Countdown to Christmas – Day 11

Today our Advent Activity was to volunteer for the Coloradoan Food Drive to benefit the Larimer County Food Bank. At one time in our marriage, we received assistance from them and greatly appreciated it. Now we choose to help them in various means. It was also good to explain the whole thing to Kahlen, who kept calling it a “contest”. She was her squirrelly charming self while we stood out on a windy day to hand out bags and tell people why we were there.

I also read the bag to her which had items that they were especially looking for, like peanut butter, then we went shopping for those things. She picked out 10 things to purchase, then was excited to place them in the barrel.
We left Nate home with his cousin for this one, didn’t think that taking him with us would be at all helpful.

Daily Photo – December 11th

Okay, for those of you who don’t know us well, this takes a little explaining. Kahlen’s lovey is a stuffed snow leopard that she takes everywhere. Stratus enjoys car rides, being nursed, doing school, and many other things. Last week, Kahlen made her a tire swing from an extra link from our countdown and a piece of string. Nate got a hold of it, end of tire swing. Kahlen was very sad and asked daddy to make her another one. Now, daddy couldn’t just make the same kind. No, he had to make a sturdier one. Out of cloth. That he sewed. Stratus (and Kahlen) are thrilled with the creation :)

Countdown to Christmas – Day 10

Our Advent Activity today was making Peppermint Candy Ornaments. We also finished frosting our sugar cookies from yesterday. I don’t have a picture of our completed ornament yet, but we did finish them :) Kahlen was funny. When I showed her the picture of what we were going to be doing, she wanted the picture to be of her and her (stuffed) kitty. So while they were in the oven, I took pictures of her and kitty and that’s the picture we used.

Help! Card Exchange??

Okay, I’m officially losing my mind.

Kahlen has received two Christmas cards this week and I think they’re from a card exchange that I signed up for. Problem is, I can’t find the information about who we’re supposed to send cards to :( I don’t want someone to miss out because I can’t find who they go to!!  I’m sure it was through a blog that I follow, but there’s too many. I’ve searched through google reader and can’t find anything. This is what I get for trying to do everything :(

Anyone know anything about this??? Anyone out there that can help me find at least this corner of my brain?

Countdown to Christmas – Day 9

Our Advent Activity today was to make Christmas Cookies. We didn’t actually complete the task, but it’s been really nice out the last few days so we’ve been going for a walk right after lunch with Kahlen’s new balance bike.

The first batch of cookies I made was a failure, bummer :( They refused to roll. I’ve been having serious trouble this year with sugar cookies. I need to just use the recipe I know works instead of trying new ones.

I was glad I had a box of Krusteaz on hand thanks to a super steal of a deal at the grocery store this week.

The cookies are all cut out and cooked, we just need to frost them tomorrow.

Nate wanted to help too :)
