Book Review – God Loves Me More Than That

image From the Publisher:

How much love does God have for me?
More than the letters between A and Z. More than the bumbles in a bumble bee.
God loves me more than that!
As your child revels in each lively rhyme and engaging illustration from this delightful picture book, they’ll learn that God loves them deeper than a wishing well, wider than a semi-truck, louder than thunder, and softer than a kitten’s sneeze.
Each question, presented with charming child-like faith will help your child grasp the great love of God through comparisons and descriptions they can easily understand. In short, they’ll discover that His love is bigger, wider, higher, and deeper than anything they could imagine!

I got the book God Loves Me More Than That by Dandi Daley Mackall in the mail two days ago, and my 4-year-old doesn’t want to put it down. As soon as she got up from her nap, she was drawn to it because of the beautiful cover (that and she loves new books). She asked me nicely informed me that I had to read it to her right away. We both loved the great illustrations and the simple yet engaging rhymes.

The book flowed very well and really showed the aspects of God’s love for us. Her favorite rhyme is “Is God’s love soft? Won’t you tell me, please?…Much, much softer than a kitten’s sneeze.” My favorite part is the illustrations. They have just the right level of detail to convey the point without being overwhelming.

2011-02-10 God Loves Me (1) Having an emerging reader, I appreciated the level of the words. I think soon she’ll be reading it to me!

Tasty Tuesday – Asian Chicken Burgers

Tasty Tuesday

Welcome to another week of Tasty Tuesday here at The Young'ns!
There’s a recipe index under the food tab above if you’re ever looking for a recipe I’ve already blogged.
Every Monday, I plan on trying a new recipe. If it goes well, that’s what I’ll be posting on Tasty Tuesday. If not, I’ll post a tried and true (i.e. something I don’t have to think about too hard) ;)

I made these super tasty burgers last night. The only thing hubby had to say was that they had too much flavor. Too much?? What the heck is he talking about?? Okay, maybe they had a lot of flavors all mixed together, but they were darn tasty and I couldn’t wait to eat my leftovers for lunch today :)

Asian Chicken Burgers

Based on this recipe from Food Network Magazine

{Ingredients}

  • Cooking spray
  • 1 small carrot
  • 1 small red onion, halved
  • 1 pound ground chicken
  • 1/4 cup panko (Japanese breadcrumbs)
  • 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon grated peeled ginger
  • 4 teaspoons low-sodium soy sauce
  • 3 teaspoons hot Asian chili sauce, such as sambal oelek
  • 8 ounces white mushrooms, thinly sliced
  • 2 teaspoons toasted sesame oil
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • 4 whole-wheat sesame hamburger buns

{Directions}

  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Mist a baking sheet with cooking spray. Grate the carrot and 1/2 onion into a large bowl. Add the chicken, panko, 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce, the ginger, 3 teaspoons soy sauce and 1 teaspoon sambal oelek and mix until combined. Shape the chicken mixture into 4 patties and place on the prepared baking sheet. Bake until cooked through, about 20 minutes. If yours don’t cook all the way like mine did, pan fry them after they’ve been in the oven for awhile.
  • Meanwhile, thinly slice the remaining 1/2 onion. Toss with the mushrooms, sesame oil, lime juice and the remaining 1 teaspoon soy sauce in a bowl. Mix the remaining 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce and 2 teaspoons sambal oelek with 1 tablespoon water in another bowl.
  • Warm the hamburger buns in the oven. Serve the burgers on the buns with a drizzle of the hoisin-sambal sauce and some of the mushroom mixture.
